Teams will not object to Lotus name changes

Top F1 teams have said they have no issues with Team Lotus' rebranding as Caterham, and the Renault team taking on the Lotus name. Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn said teams should only change their name for "genuine" reasons, but they "wouldn't stand in the way of a sensible proposal". Christian Horner and Martin Whitmarsh have also spoken out in favour of the change.

mschumi   Michael Schumacher
I take it this is you admitting defeat Tony, you're giving up the cherished brand name you so lovingly purchased and financially nurtured.
TheRealTony   Tony Fernandes
Ha, there'll be egg on those Renault faces when they realise they've named themselves after a Kama Sutra position.
Boulotus   Eric Boullier
What Tony, you didn't know that already? We could've just said that in court and the whole thing would've been over?
TheRealTony   Tony Fernandes
Never heard of it. When I found out about it I did what any sane person would do, and bought another car company to use their name instead.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Oh, Caterham's a car company then is it? It sounds more like a catering company specialising in pig meat.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
You've done a fair bit of team renaming yourself Brawn, what exactly is it that constitutes a "genuine" reason?
rossbrawn   Ross Brawn
Those were buyouts Alonso, I bought out Honda, Mercedes bought out Brawn.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Which means you... sold out? I suppose it didn't hurt that the Brawn team then goes down in history as undefeated. I guess winning the championship by fluke with illegal aerodynamic aids is a "genuine" enough reason for a name change.
rubens   Rubens Barrichello
It's so unfair, that was my big chance and then they took away my diffuser.
rossbrawn   Ross Brawn
They took away Jenson's too. If you'd woken up before Valencia, maybe you'd have made use of it while you had it. You know what they say Rubens, use it or lose it.
mschumi   Michael Schumacher
Or both. I believe Barrichello's motto at Ferrari was "be used and lose."
rubens   Rubens Barrichello
I don't like being used Michael, it's so unfair on me and all my fans.
bestofbritish   Jenson Button
Ooh I like being used Rubinho, you're welcome to lose yourself in me any time you use me.
CoalInCoals   Colin Kolles
Yet again, the big teams think they can bully us smaller teams around and tell us what to do. I'll change my team name whenever I like, without anyone's permission.
MycLaren   Martin Whitmarsh
There is always a need for some form of regulation Colin, sometimes people don't even know what's good for themselves.
CoalInCoals   Colin Kolles
We can look after ourselves Whitmarsh, we didn't get where we are by accident.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
To be fair, that's true Whitmarsh, they're the worst team in F1 purely by merit.
MycLaren   Martin Whitmarsh
I don't dispute that Colin, but with respect, perhaps if you had some outside guidance, you would have reconsidered renaming your team HRT after a medical procedure.
