Ecclestone moots customer car idea to help weaker teams

Bernie Ecclestone has said that struggling F1 teams should have an option to purchase customer cars from the established outfits until such time as they are in a position to be competitive. He suggested that a small team like HRT or Marussia "could run last year's McLaren, or last year's Red Bull, for three years until they get themselves together and then they have to go back to be a constructor."

Great idea Bernie, this has about as much catchy appeal as a bout of rabies.
Bernie   Bernie Ecclestone
Not a big deal Fernando, no harm to give the small teams a few clapped out Ferraris, Mercs, and Red Bulls from last year. It would keep the slow guys going for years. In fact I remember flogging a banger of a Merc to a mate of mine back in the 70's, poor sod is still driving it, bless him.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
A year old F1 car is hardly a clapped out banger, there's a good chance they might be quicker than some of the new ones.
Bernie   Bernie Ecclestone
Even better, get some of the small lads up the front. I'm bloody sick of these German drivers winning everything, that young blond bloke waving his stupid finger when he wins. He needs to grow up, back in the day it was a struggle to stop drivers waving their knob at some tart on the way up to the podium.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Nothing wrong with your idea except for McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari giving away their technological advantage, ever heard of intellectual property Bernie?
Bernie   Bernie Ecclestone
That's the bloody problem with the world now isn't it Fernando, too much intellectual this and that. If all these over-educated nonces switched their brains off we'd be the better for it. IP agreements are a pain, I prefer the old handshake myself, much quicker, and you can always change your mind.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
There is also the issue of there being perceived sub-teams which might be expected to help their car suppliers out? Four Ferraris on the grid? I think we've discussed this before.
Bernie   Bernie Ecclestone
A lick of paint sorts that out Fernando, paint the customer Ferrari blue or something. F1 drivers aren't the brightest, they wouldn't realise they're driving a Ferrari themselves, never mind Joe Blogs sitting on his arse watching the telly half asleep.
Montezuma   Luca di Montezemolo
Greetings peons, let the skies reverberate with the thunder of my declarations. These Ferrari "customers", if they want to sup from the golden chalice of the Maranello king they must bow in slavery, and pay for this generosity with their souls.
todt   Jean Todt
Christ, we agreed you'd warn me about any bright new ideas Bernie. We cannot allow extra Ferrari's on the grid, I would be accused of bias towards my former employers.
Montezuma   Luca di Montezemolo
Silence traitor, address me as Emperor, not employer. Your insolence is an echo of your treachery. Fill the earth with my Ferraris. However, heed this warning, such waifs will only receive their scarlet chariots when they kiss my ring to pledge their allegiance.
bestofbritish   Jenson Button
If anyone wants to pledge their allegiance to this sex-god let me know. If you kiss my ring I'll definitely make you my slave.
sbstnvtl   Sebastian Vettel
There's no way we can sell Kinky Kylie.
Horner   Christian Horner
Don't worry perfect Seb, we would never ever give your 2011 car to anybody, it's too priceless.
sbstnvtl   Sebastian Vettel
Yes, I am the title favourite, that's what I'm talking about! Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing-a-ding-ding.
Horner   Christian Horner
That's what I like to hear Seb. Red Bull would however like to declare that they may be in a position to negotiate an offer to supply the sister Red Bull, as driven by Mark Webber in the 2011 championship, to struggling teams.
wibbah   Mark Webber
Flamin' Nora, why does Seb get to keep his one, my one's exactly the same so you're still giving all our secrets away.
Horner   Christian Horner
Despite the best efforts of our engineering department, and the clause in your contract entitling you to nominally identical equipment to your teammate, it is an unfortunate fact of life that no two cars are ever exactly the same Mark.
wibbah   Mark Webber
Any of the other teams would be totally stoked to get their hands on my Red Bull.
Horner   Christian Horner
Actually Mark, Adrian is of the opinion that given last year's stark performance differential, there would be limited interest in any case in a customer taking the sister car, so you have nothing to worry about.
