Eddie Jordan receives honourary OBE

Former team boss turned TV pundit Eddie Jordan has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the Queen. Having guided his eponymous GP team to four GP victories in it's guise as Jordan GP, EJ commented to the BBC, "I am hugely surprised and greatly overjoyed to receive this magnificent honour," before adding,"I got a brown envelope and I thought it was another tax enquiry looking for more money."

Is this some kind of April Fool's joke or something?
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Rather unbelievably, it appears to be true.
ej   Eddie Jordan
It is wonderful to finally realise, as I suspected, that the Queen was a Jordan fan. After all of Jordan's efforts to be accepted by the establishment we are now vindicated, as is my decision to take gambles with inexperienced talented drivers. Let's just hope Charlie Whiting sorts out all this F-duct nonsense. I'd like to add if I may, that Jordan was a team of the people that totally rejected the establishment and revelled in our label as rebellious outsiders, although I really regret taking risks with unproven drivers like Michael Schumacher.

Mmmm... O.B.E, Obnoxious Blabbering Egghead. Pity you didn't get a knighthood Eddie, terrible shame if that sword had slipped and lopped your tongue off.
Bernie   Bernie Ecclestone
Bloody establishment, handing out a few stupid letters to people. They tried to give me a CBE, whatever that means, sounds like a disease doesn't it, I turned the old girl down anyway.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Eddie on joining the elite few motorsport figures who have been honoured with an OBE, which I was awarded myself, albeit that I have now surpassed that achievement having been awarded a CBE, or to give the full title in conjunction with my full name it would mean that I am Nigel Ernest James Mansell, Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. This recognition from Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II means a great deal to me as a driver, who in addition to being renowned for his bravery on the track, was also lauded as a patriotic British driver, and I am no less proud to say that I was victorious in the British GP on four occasions. I used to like to say that it was the support of the public that gave me a few critical tenths of lap in time in my home GPs, just as they gave me their votes to crown me BBC Sports Personality of the Year twice, one of only three athletes to achieve this.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Jesus, they should have given you a knighthood for services to insomnia charities.
jackie   Jackie Stewart
The term knighthood is not one to be bandied around cheaply Fernando. One should aspire to the highest level in all quarters of life. As one who reached the very pinnacle of motorsport, I consider that the prestige of this honour has made me a more valuable asset to those seeking my services, be they in a media or business capacity. Indeed one may assert that I only truly achieved my maximum potential in my guise as Sir Jackie.
ej   Eddie Jordan
Far be it from me to criticize the monarchy, but if Knights are called Sir, they really should have thought up a prefix to address an OBE correctly.
fernando   Fernando Alonso
Why don't you go complain to Sir George McCartney about it. If it's all the same to you Jordan, I'll go on addressing you as wanker.
bestofbritish   Jenson Button
Ooh Fernando, if you want to honour this old queen let me know, I'll knight your hood with my sword any day.
DC   David Coulthard
Eddie better send that honour back Martin. They spelt it wrong, when they gave it to me it said MBE.
MBrundle   Martin Brundle
They have different types of honours David, they gave Eddie an Order of the British Empire, your one means Member of the British Empire.
DC   David Coulthard
I hope I don't have to pay any membership fees. By the way Martin, why is everyone at the BBC calling you Ben?
MBrundle   Martin Brundle
Jesus, that's not me, that's your new lead commentator Ben Edwards.
DC   David Coulthard
Oh, I thought it was your nickname, you know like Gentle Ben on TV.
MBrundle   Martin Brundle
That wasn't his nickname, it was the actual name of a bear on a fictional TV show.
DC   David Coulthard
So what was Gentle Ben's name in real life then?
MBrundle   Martin Brundle
You're going to give me a stroke David. We need to cut down on our interaction now we no longer commentate together, I'm too busy with all the work on Sky Sports.
DC   David Coulthard
Wow Martin, sky sports sounds cool. Is that like pigeon racing? I love pigeons.
